FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Does the donation cost me anything? The WebOfCharity donation process does not cost you any money at all. When you click the 'DONATE NOW!' button, a page will be displayed that contains Sponsor Advertisements. The Sponsors pay the donation for you. How much Money is donated/click? Each time you click the 'DONATE NOW!' button, each sponsor will pay 1/2 cent. If there are 10 advertisers on the page, your click is worth 5 cents. What is the 'iClick for Charity' Program? 'iClick for Charity' was modeled after a traditional charitable fund raising effort. EXAMPLE: If you volunteered to walk 5 miles to raise money for Breast Cancer you might be required to recruit all your friends to assist you by donating $1/mile that you walk. In the end, you collect money from all your friends and give a lump sum to a Breast Cancer foundation. We are adapting this traditional concept to the internet to raise funds with an added bonus! When you and your friends participate you will assist the charities and qualify to win weekly prizes. How is the iClick winner chosen? After registration, you will earn 1 point each time you make a FREE DONATION to one of our cancer charities. You will earn additional points by referring friends to the site. Once your friend has registered using your email address, both you and your friend will earn a point each time your friend makes a FREE DONATION. Each of your points will be considered a lottery ticket toward the weekly drawing. Our computer program will randomly choose a winning ticket from that week's entries. 1/2 cent sounds like so little money, does it really make a difference? Absolutely! There is strength in numbers. The best part about the internet is its ability to get large amounts of people together in the same place. If 1,000 people/day click to donate and there are 10 advertisers on the page each day it will generate $18,250 in donations per year. This will only work if you visit us once/day and tell your friends about the site. Why are the sponsors willing to pay for the donations? There are 3 main reasons why our sponsors pay for the donations: 1. WebOfCharity is a valuable form of Advertising for the Sponsor companies. People come to the site to see which companies are on the donation page. Unlike other web advertising, ours is very focused because there isn't anything else to distract you from the Advertisements. 2. People are likely to purchase products from a company that aligns itself with a good cause that affects a lot of people. 3. Our advertising rates are cheaper than those of most internet sites and the money is tax deductible because their check is endorsed directly to the charity. How often can I make a free donation? To be fair to our Sponsors you can not donate more than once/day. We highly encourage you to visit us daily to maximize your donation potential. The best way to accomplish this is to set your browsers homepage to WebOfCharity. Follow this link for instructions on setting WebOfCharity.com as your homepage. Why is WebOfCharity considered a For-Profit organization? While researching the IRS documentation to apply for 501(c)(3) non-profit status we uncovered the following paragraph regarding contributions: If the donor receives or expects to receive goods or services in return for a contribution to your organization, the donor cannot deduct any part of the contribution unless the donor intends to, and does, make a payment greater than the fair market value of the goods or services. If a deduction is allowed, the donor can deduct only the part of the contribution, if any, that is more than the fair market value of the goods or services received. You should determine in advance the fair market value of any goods or services to be given to contributors and tell them when you publicize the fund-raising event or solicit their contributions how much is deductible and how much is to the goods or services. See Disclosure of Quid Pro Quo Contributions in chapter 2. In the case of WebOfCharity.com, the donor is actually the Advertising Sponsor. Our site is providing the Sponsor is the service of Advertising. Advertising on WebOfCharity.com is at or below fair market value for this service. Therefore, if WebOfCharity.com was a non-profit organization, the advertiser would not be able to deduct the donations. Due to the fact that our advertisers are endorsing separate checks to each of the charities, the entire value of that donation is tax deductible. How is the money that is donated allocated by WebOfCharity? Sponsors write out separate checks which are endorsed directly to the Charitable Organizations. 85% of the money goes to the charities. 15% goes toward overhead and operating costs of the website. How can I help WebOfCharity find sponsors? The more sponsors we have, the more your click will be worth to the charity. If you know an organization that would be interested in low cost internet advertising, or is interested in donating money to support cancer research, please encourage them to contact us. Be sure to visit our sponsors page for more information. Can we put a link from our own site to WebOfCharity? Yes, if you feel like doing more for cancer research, this would be a wonderful gesture. Thank you for linking to WebOfCharity. What is WebOfCharity's privacy policy? Unless you register with us, the donation process is complete anonymous. We have no means of gathering any information from you while you are donating. The only things that are tracked during donation is the IP address of the computer you are using (which changes each time you dial into the internet), the last time you donated (so we can maintain the 'one donation per day' rule and which charity you chose (so we know who the donations should go to). If you choose to register to win the weekly prizes, your name, email and zip code will be collected. Email addresses and other contact information are never given or sold to any third party. Please read our full privacy statement. |
